CHINA MIÉVILLE AT CLARION WEST Posted Fishday, 28 Lunuary, Anno Urbis 2003 by gblack Clarion West, an intensive six-week workshop for writers preparing for professional careers in science fiction and fantasy, is held annually at the Seattle Central Community College in Seattle, WA. The 2003 workshop will be held June 22 through August 1, 2003. Nancy Kress, Kathleen Ann Goonan, China Miéville, Elizabeth Hand, editor Patrick Nielsen, and Samuel R. Delany will teach. 
CONJUNCTIONS 39 READING IN NY Posted Blueday, 27 Lunuary, Anno Urbis 2003 by gblack China will be in New York doing a reading to celebrate the Conjunctions Issue 39 at the New School on the evening of January 28 (Tuesday), at the Tischman Auditorium, on 12th St in the Village. 
ARTHUR C. CLARKE AWARD NOMINATION Posted Fishday, 21 Lunuary, Anno Urbis 2003 by gblack Finalists for the 2003 Arthur C. Clarke Award, for best sf novel published in Britain during 2002, have been announced. - Kil'n People, David Brin

The winner will be announced in a ceremony at the Science Museum on Saturday 17th May. Judges are Tony Cullen and Iain Emsley (BSFA), Doug Millard (Science Museum), and Paul McAuley and Liz Sourbut (Science Fiction Foundation). The Chairman of the judges is Paul Kincaid. This is China Miéville's second nomination for the Arthur C. Clarke. The first nominated novel, Perdido Street Station, earned him the award in 2001. 
AWARD NEWS Posted Dockday, 8 Lunuary, Anno Urbis 2003 by gblack China Miéville's Perdido Street Station made it to the Nebula Award preliminary ballot as reported on this page. Noteworthy novels featured on the ballot include: Neil Gaiman's American Gods, Ursula K. Le Guin's The Other Wind, Maureen F. McHugh's Nekropolis, Vera Nazarian's Dreams of the Compass Rose, Patrick O'Leary's The Impossible Bird and Michael Swanwick's Bones of the Earth. Tough competition!
