CHINA WINS KURD LASSWITZ AWARD The German edition of Perdido Street Station (published in two volumes, Die Falter and Der Weber) snatched up the award in the Best Foreign Novel category. Congratulations are in order to China and his German translator Eva Bauche-Eppers, who also won the award for Best Translation.

CHINA MIÉVILLE AT MARXISM 2003 Martin Empson tells us that China Miéville will be speaking at this year's Marxism 2003 event. Marxism 2003 will be a week long event with over 200 meetings, debates rallies and discussions. Meetings will look at recent political events, debates in the anti-capitalist and anti-war movements, as well as discussions on culture, art and music. China will be speaking on two topics, though the exact dates and times are to be finalised. He will firstly address recent blockbuster films in a meeting called "Blockbusters and Boy Wizards -- is this Science Fiction's new wave?" He will also speak on "A Marxist approach to international law". Marxism 2003 is hosted by the Socialist Workers Party, and runs from Fri 4 July to Fri 11 July in central London.
